Stanley E. Vantran

April 19, 1936 ~ February 23, 2016 (age 79) 79 Years Old


LOWVILLE – Stanley E. Vantran, 79, of Trinity Ave., Lowville, passed away Tuesday evening, February 23, 2016 at Lewis County General Hospital. 

A memorial service will be held later this spring, at a date and time to be announced, at the Lowville Baptist Church.  Burial with Military Honors will be in Beaches Bridge Cemetery.  There will be no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lowville Baptist Church, 7627 State Street, Lowville, NY 13367; or to Friends of Lewis County Hospice, P.O. Box 266, Lowville, NY  13367.

Mr. Vantran is survived by a daughter, Mary Louise Vantran of Watertown; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Kimberly Vantran of Parkton, MD; a sister, Regina Noval-Loch of Sheldrate, NY; four grandchildren, Ben Vantran, and triplet grandsons, Luke, Matt and Jack Vantran.  He is predeceased by his wife, Gene Eleanor Vantran, who died April 12, 2011; and by a sister, Shirley Treible.

Stanley was born on April 19, 1936 in Liberty, NY, a son of the late Stanley V. and F. Louise Kneip Vantran.    He attended Fallsburg High School in Fallsburg, NY, and was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  After his service, he worked construction on the Neversink Dam in Sullivan County.  In 1958, Stan started work with NYABC, which later became Eastern A.I. Cooperative.  On October 25, 1958, he married Gene Eleanor Sprague at Liberty United Methodist Church in Liberty, NY.  Following their marriage, the couple moved to Lowville, moving to their current residence in May 1965.  Stan continued his work as an A.I. Technician throughout Lewis County for over 32 years, retiring in 1990.

Mr. Vantran was a member of Lowville Baptist Church.  He was a member of Lowville American Legion Post #162, and an associate member of Lewis County Marine Corps Det. #754.  He was a past President of Lowville Kiwanis Club, a member of B.P.O.E. #1605, Lowville Elks Lodge, and was a Master Mason in Lowville Lodge #134 F & AM. 

Stan enjoyed hunting and fishing, music and gardening.  He had a love for the outdoors.
