Florence L. Lehman

December 11, 1932 ~ December 28, 2016 (age 84) 84 Years Old


NEW BREMEN – Florence L. Lehman, 84, of Patty Street, New Bremen, passed away Wednesday evening, December 28, 2016, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, under the loving care of her family and Lewis County Hospice.

Calling hours are from 6-9 p.m. on Monday, January 2, 2017, at Lowville Mennonite Church.  The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at Lowville Mennonite Church, with Rev. Keith Zehr and Rev. Evan Zehr officiating.  A luncheon will follow at the church.  Burial will be in the Croghan Mennonite Cemetery in the spring.  Contributions may be made Faithful Workers Sewing Circle at Lowville Mennonite Church, C/O Eunice Roggie, 5563 Woodlawn Ave, Lowville, NY 13367 or Lewis County Office for the Aging, 7660 State Street, Lowville, NY 13367.

She is survived by five children and their spouses, Sheryl and John Nespor of San Diego, California; Sue and Kevin Roggie of Lowville; Perry Lehman of Lowville; Cindy and David Lapp of New Bremen; Mark and Dixie Lehman of Lowville; brothers and sisters, Sherwood and Linda Zehr of Black River; Estella Yancey of Florida; Rachael Widrick of Lowville; sisters-in-law, Geraldine Zehr of Castorland; Janet Zehr of Croghan; ten grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.  Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.  She is predeceased by her husband, Daniel Lehman; three brothers, Gilbert Zehr, Clifford Zehr, and Henry and his wife Mable Zehr; three sisters and brothers-in-law, Rosella and Walter Thompson, Grace and Elmer Steria, and Eleanor Zehr, who passed away in infancy; a sister-in-law Joan Zehr; and brothers-in-law, Clyde Yancey and Sherwood Widrick.

Florence was born on December 11, 1932, at home in Croghan, NY, a daughter of the late David H. and Veronica Widrick Zehr. She attended country school in Belfort, Beaver River Central School, and completed her schooling at Copenhagen Central School.  On November 2, 1950, she married Daniel S. Lehman at Lowville Mennonite Church, with Rev. Lloyd Boshart officiating.  Together with her husband, she owned and operated a third-generation dairy farm on the Snell Road from 1961 until retiring in 1995, when they sold the farm to their son and daughter-in-law, Mark and Dixie Lehman.  During their time of operation, they were awarded the Lewis County Conservation District’s Farmer of the Year honors in 1976.

Mrs. Lehman was a member of the Lowville Mennonite Church.  She was also a faithful participant of Lowville Mennonite Sewing Circle and a dedicated caregiver at Brookside Senior Living Community.

She enjoyed sewing, counted cross stich, gardening, cooking and baking, and most of all, helping others.  She lived a life of true service and touched countless lives.
