Clara (Roggie) Roes

LOWVILLE – Clara Roes, 86, of State Route 12, passed away Sunday, November 1, 2015, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Syracuse.

Calling hours are Tuesday, November 3, 2015 from 2 - 4 & 7 - 9 p.m. at Naumburg Mennonite Church.  The burial will be at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 in Croghan Mennonite Cemetery. The Memorial Service will follow on Wednesday, November 4, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Naumburg Mennonite Church with Rev. Titus Mast, and Rev. Myron Roggie, officiating.  Contributions may be made to the Naumburg Mennonite Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 137, Castorland, NY 13620.  Arrangements are with Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.

Mrs. Roes is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Lois and Wilfred Schrag of Lowville, Caroline and Dale Virkler, and Marlene and Leonard Widrick, all of New Bremen; five sons and daughters-in-law, Loren and Dawn Roes, Marvin and Sandy Roes, Calvin and Marcia Roes, Norman and Melanie Roes, all of Lowville, Robert and Karen Roes of Carthage; a brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Janet Roggie of Lowville; 19 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.  She is predeceased by her husband, Lloyd Roes, who died March 30, 2007; a brother, Allan Roggie; three sisters, Gladys Roggie, Helen Roggie, and an infant sister who died at birth; and a granddaughter, Charity Joy Roes.

Clara was born on March 15, 1929, a daughter of the late Reuben W. and Verna Yousey Roggie.  She attended country school on Route 26 in Lowville and Lowville Academy.  Through much perseverance, she later earned her GED.  Clara worked at the Lowville Laundry prior to her marriage.  On June 7, 1950, she married Lloyd Roes at the Lowville Mennonite Church with Rev. Lloyd Boshart officiating.  Together with her husband, the couple owned and operated a dairy farm on Route 12 in the Town of Lowville from 1959 - 1990.  The couple started a farm drainage trenching business in 1968, expanding the business in 1987 with a rock trenching machine.  The two businesses are now owned and operated by their sons, Calvin and NormMrs. Roes was a member of the Naumburg Mennonite Church.  She enjoyed sewing, and participated in the sewing circles at Naumburg Mennonite Church and Lowville Mennonite Church.  In her earlier years, Clara enjoyed gardening and lawn care.  Above all, she enjoyed spending time with her family.
