Wilford B. Roggie

CASTORLAND – Wilford B. Roggie, 90, of Old Indian River Road, passed away Sunday, April 17, 2016 at East Road Adult Home, where he has resided for four months.  Mr. Roggie was under the care of the staff and Lewis County Hospice.

A memorial service will be held at the Croghan Mennonite Church on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with Paul Mast, Bruce J. Roggie, Darrell Roggie and Chris Roggie, Pastors, officiating.  Calling hours will be from 6 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 19, 2016 at the church.  A graveside committal service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 20, 2016 in the Croghan Mennonite Church Cemetery, prior to the memorial service.  Contributions in his name may be made to Croghan Mennonite Church, P.O. Box 68, Croghan, NY  13327.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Eunice; four sons, Bruce L. and Barbara Roggie of Castorland; Kevin and Sue Roggie of Lowville; Darrell and Jeanette Roggie, and Quintin and Debra Roggie, both of Castorland; ten grandchildren, and 23 great-grandchildren.  Also surviving is a twin brother and his spouse, Wilburn and Elviera Roggie of Lowville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Wilford was born on April 12, 1926, at home in the Town of Croghan, a son of the late Menno and Leah Moshier Roggie.  He attended school in the Beaver River School District.  On June 22, 1950, he married Eunice Lehman at Croghan Mennonite Church with Rev. Lloyd Boshart officiating.  Mr. Roggie was employed at the J.P. Lewis Paper Mill in Beaver Falls for 39 years, until his retirement.

Wilford was a member of Croghan Mennonite Church.   After his retirement, together with his wife, the couple enjoyed traveling to 49 states.  He enjoyed gardening, and keeping up his home.
