To Mary and all of the family,
I spent a lot of my childhood at the Harris home and camp, and I have always been grateful to Mary and Jim for their unending hospitality. Jim was always smiling, singing,or playing the piano (well, when he wasn't climbing those poles!). Such a great guy! I loved him and know that all of you did too. He will be missed in our physical world but surely is bringing music and joy to those in the next. Won't Madge be delighted to see him! Love, Mary

Thank you for all of the kind and thoughtful words you shared about our father. Dad loved telling funny stories and you always laughed along with him! Thank you for stopping and visiting with my parents from time to time. Dad always loved your sweet treats and visits on the porch! You are a wonderful friend! We have many wonderful memories of your parents and mine! Grandma Madge always thought my father was perfect! And he was pretty close!

My sincere sympathy to the Jim Harris family - especially Mary, his devoted wife and my lifelong friend.
As a student at Lowville Academy with Jim from grades K-12 and a neighbor at Brantingham Lake, we became close friends for many summers and school days.
Jim was in essence, a mentor to me. I learned to swim and dive with him and his father, both of whom were "fish in the water"! He was always ready to look after my safety and ready to teach. He showed great physical skills, but never boasted about his talents.
Whenever a piano was next to him, I watched his fingers move across the keys in his inimitable style - usually remindful of "Fats Waller" and the other jazz greats. Although I seem to recall he once took music lessons from Lou Shattuck, a music teacher, I was convinced he sometimes trained himself - since his ear for rhythm and pitch were inborn. Typical of his desire to share his love for music, he always encouraged me to join him at the piano.
In later years, after he met Mary, my husband (Gerald) and I shared good times together with my cousin, Don Peebles. I have good memories of meeting at Don's home after school, "jamming" with Don on his trumpet; Jim and I on the "ivories".
It is with a heavy heart that I will say goodbye to Jim now...his great humor, his many skills, and his loyal friendship. He has left me with never-ending, wonderful memories.
Sincerely, Elizabeth (Gallup) Fogarty, Potsdam, NY

Thank you for sharing such wonderful memories of Dad in his younger years. He truly loved to play. It was like a drug to him. He'd sit down and start playing a tune and he'd just go on for HOURS. He was the best! Thanks for your memories...

I am very sorry for your loss. Jim was a first-class colleague of my dad's at Niagara Mohawk for many years, and the Harris camp was a near neighbor of our family at Brantingham. Even at very young age, I remember being struck by Jim's smile and joyful spirit. My dad and mom were always a little jealous of the way Jim and Mary managed their family, I am sure. We will says a prayer for Jim as he ascends to his Maker.

Thank you for thinking of us. Dad was a kind and gentle man. When I was in college I had the pleasure of working on your Dad's truck every summer. He also was a kind and gentle man with great knowledge for his job and a sense of humor I'm sure few experienced since he was a tad shy! Your kind words are appreciated...

Our deepest condolences for your loss. I've known Jim all my life and always enjoyed his colorful stories and warm personality. We affectionately referred to him as "The Gardener"as he was always outside with his big hat on digging in the Pachysandra and flower beds. His presence will surely be missed on Shady Ave. RIP

To Mary and all the family,
We were so sorry to hear of Jimmy's passing. I always remember him being so well thought of and well spoken of by our family. The blessing is that he is fully alive and forever young-- no more glasses, grey hair, or forgetting. But for us still waiting here in this life, we shall keep in our prayers during this time.

Deepest Sympathies to Mary and all,
Jim Harris is one of those people you can count on one hand and consider him a great man and great friend. He always treated me like a son, Brantingham-BBQ chicken-a manhatten, at Brown Creek, giving you a ride up in the woods in his truck, with his latest tape of piano music, stories, while he was putting you on watch (could take awhile) or stories at camp, the last one to bed to make sure everyone was ok and accounted for. Many people say they are a christian and they may be, but Jim always acted like one. We will miss you until we see you again! Don and Ellen Doyle
