CROGHAN – Imelda W. Hills, 85, formerly of Steiner Road and Brookside Senior Living Community, died early Sunday evening, April 2, 2017 at Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility, where she has resided since December 2009.

The funeral will be Friday, April 7, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at First Mennonite Church, New Bremen, with Ed Steckly, Pastor, officiating.  Burial will be in the First Mennonite Church Cemetery.  Calling hours are Thursday, April 6, 2017 from 5-8 p.m. at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc.  Contributions may be made to Mennonite Central Committee, 21 South 12th Street, P.O. She is survived by three sons and their wives, Larry R. and Ruth of North Canton, Ohio, Philip D. and Jane of Croghan, NY; Mark L. and Nicole of Croghan, NY; a brother and sister-in-law, Glen and Anna Margie Widrick of Croghan; a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Norman Yousey of Castorland; two sisters-in-law, Frances Widrick of Mount Bethel, PA; Ruth Widrick of Lowville; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.  She is predeceased by her husband, Ronald C. Hills, who died November 4, 2007; her parents, Leon H. and Katherine D. Lehman Widrick; three brothers and a sister-in-law, Derwood Widrick, Doug Widrick, Gerald and Betty Widrick; a sister and brother-in-law, Maxine and Vernon Nafziger.

Imelda was born on August 6, 1931 in New Bremen, NY, a daughter of the late Leon H. and Katherine D. Lehman Widrick. She attended country school on the Steiner Road and the old Kirschnerville school house.  Imelda did domestic work for area families and worked for Climax Manufacturing in Castorland prior to her marriage.  On September 5, 1953, she married Ronald C. Hills at First Mennonite Church, New Bremen, with Rev. Gordon Schrag, officiating.  Mrs. Hills went with her husband during his two years 1W voluntary service at Retreat Hospital in Brattleboro, Vermont.  After Mr. Hills’ 1W service, the couple moved to Cascade Avenue in Lowville, before moving to the Steiner Road in 1961.  Imelda worked for Kraft Foods in Lowville for many years, retiring in 1989.   After Mr. Hills passing in 2007, Imelda moved to Brookside Senior Living Community in 2008 and to the Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility in 2009.

Mrs. Hills was a member of First Mennonite Church, New Bremen, where she was Sunday School Superintendent and taught Sunday school when she was younger.  She was a member of the church sewing circle, and was very involved with church activities with her husband.  She made many sweaters for Guide Posts and leper bandages.  Imelda sewed many school bags for church.  She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, cooking, baking, gardening and canning.

Imelda’s family wishes to thank the staff of the first floor at Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility for their loving care during her stay there.
