Craig A. Forney

MARTINSBURG – Craig A. Forney, 48, of Glendale Road, passed away Tuesday, July 12, 2016 at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester.

The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 16, 2016 at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville, with Rev. Paul Cornell officiating. Burial will follow in Martinsburg Cemetery.  Calling hours are from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, July 14, 2016 and from 2-4 & 6-8 on Friday, July 15, 2016 at the funeral home.  Contributions in his memory may be made to the Martinsburg Fire Department, P.O. Box 143, Martinsburg, NY  13404.    

He is survived by his significant other, Tina Kaler of Lowville; his children, Brittney and Gene Burke of Carthage; Tyler Forney, at home; Marissa Forney, at home; his mother, Betsy Forney of Carthage; two brothers, Brian and Charlene Forney of Belfort; Travis and Melissa Forney of Carthage; a grandson, Hayden Michael Burke; aunts, and uncle, nieces, a nephew, and cousins.  He is predeceased by his father, Joseph M. Forney, who died July 14, 2010.

Craig was born on January 31, 1968 in Watertown, a son of the late Joseph M. Forney and Betsy Schermerhorn Forney.  He graduated from Beaver River Central School in 1986.  Craig worked locally until going to work for the Town of Martinsburg Highway Department for 16 ½ years, leaving work in December 2015, due to illness.

Craig was a member and past Fire Chief of Martinsburg Fire Department for many years.  He was a member of the National Rifle Association.  Craig was an avid hunter and fisherman.  He enjoyed playing pool, and played in area pool leagues.
