I am so saddened to hear of Miss Zehr's passing. I have known her since I can remember. She was a dear friend of my mother, Dorothy Steinbrenner. They worked together at school and remained close ever since. Miss Zehr was a giant among educators. She was totally committed to helping her students and her colleagues , 'become the best they could be '. She influenced so many, in such positive ways. Her kindness, her sense of humor, her compassion, her work ethic, and her love of learning and for people, will be remembered by all of us who knew her. Well done faithful servant. You are now at peace with your God.

My dear family. Sorry about your loss. When the enemy death strikes, the sting of death can be very painful, and can leave us with emotions that are hard to understand. Know that when you pour out your heart to God (Psalms 83:18) in prayer, He will give you that Peace that surpasses all understanding to guard your thinking and your heart. May the family stay together during this difficult times.

Larry and I were fortunate to grow up with Charlotte as our elementary school principal. My mother, Kay Shaw, was the hairdresser for Charlotte and her sister Kathleen for many years. Later, when Charlotte and Kathleen moved to Brookside, they were neighbors to Larry's parents. Always kind and considerate, they both were examples of how we should live our lives and love our neighbors. We will miss her smile and giggle and of course her presence among us. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire family.

Miss Zehr was my elementary principal when I was a student and when I began my teaching career. When she began her job as Elementary Principal in 1957, Lowville Academy had just been centralized. It must have been an interesting challenge to bring students and teachers together into one building. The students had been rather isolated and scattered about in the village and across numerous one room schoolhouses. Many of the teachers had to adjust from teaching multiple grades in a one room school to having to focus on only one level. Miss Zehr was known for her ability to move quickly about the new, large building. Sometimes her presence was announced by the rapid click-clacking of her high heels; other times she would just appear in a room without having made a sound!

Ms. Zehr began her career as principal the year I entered LACS as a second grader. While she was a presence in the school every day, it wasn't until I had spent a couple of decades as an educator that I realized what a truly remarkable and influential educator/leader she was. I'm sure I'm one of many students who look back at our foundational years in elementary school with gratitude for the impacts this amazing person had on us, impacts that have shaped our lives. While she may have been short in stature, she truly was a giant among those of us who shared time with her. My thoughts are with her family.

Farewell to my teaching mentor, as well as the first principal to hire me as a colleague.
Fond memories will always remain with me until we meet again. I love you Charlotte.

Miss Zehr (never "Charlotte" to us), while perhaps of modest height, was a giant to all of us whom she guided as principal of the Lowville Elementary School, which for me began in 1957. She was an admired well respected colleague of my father and all of the other teachers and administrators at LACS, and she delighted in hearing from and about all of her former students. She will be missed.

An honor to have known Charlotte and Kathleen through Lowville Current Topics Women's group. Smart, organized, hardworking, and down to earth world travelers, educators, and special friends.
Thank you for sharing your wonderful Zehr and Lehman family with us.

When Charlotte was "Miss Zehr" to me, she was the kindest school principal. Memories include trying out a new math book. I was blessed to be chosen as a small group of what she called her Guinea pigs. She taught us herself, I believe. God blessed so many through her for lots of years. She will be missed, but I am thrilled for her now!

Dear Mary and family....I was so sad to read of Charlotte's passing. I know she is in the arms of our Heavenly Father, but has left a hole here on Earth. Charlotte was a wonderful principal in my elementary years. She sure made a wonderful impression on so many of us. My prayers for peace as you endure these next weeks and months without her. Miss Zehr, rest easy and well. Job well done are the words I'm sure you have heard when you passed into your Father's arms.

I absolutely loved her as a elementary principal. Always had a smile on her face and greeted us each morning. Many years after I graduated she still remembered me. Rest in peace. You will always have a place in my heart.

She often spoke of her admiration and respect for Charlotte in both her personal and professional life.

What a wonderful woman! My life-long friend and counselor. Charlotte was born one day before my mother, and we often celebrated their birthdays together. She was my elementary school principal, and even way back then was a wonderful friend to a scared little girl. I will ALWAYS treasure such wonderful memories of her sense of humor, proper sensibilities, and just plain good sense! Although you are now in God's care dear Charlotte, as long as my heart beats you will be with me hear on earth. Love, Mary

I meant "here" on earth! I was crying too hard to see what I had typed. Charlotte would be disappointed with my spelling error!
