George K. Lane, Jr.

TURIN – George K. Lane, Jr., 84, of State Route 26, passed away early Tuesday morning, December 1, 2015, at Strong Memorial Hospital, Rochester.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gladys; a son, Steven B. Lane of Turin; a sister, DeEtta Jaconski of Verona; a brother, Clifford Lane of Turin; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Lane of Utica; four grandchildren, Stephanie Lane; Ryan Lane; Amanda Heubner-Lane; Kyle Heubner-Lane; several nieces, nephews and cousins.  He is predeceased by a daughter, Lisa J. Heubner-Lane, who died in December 2010; two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Durward Lane; Lansing and Virginia Lane; and Mary Shirley Lane.

George was born on September 10, 1931 at home in the Town of New Bremen, NY, a son of the late George K. Lane, Sr. and Ella Steiner Lane.  He attended General Martin High School, and worked on the family farm.  He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1951, and served until his honorable discharge in 1955.  After his service, George returned to work on the family farm.  On June 6, 1953, he married Gladys Barniak at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Glenfield.  Together with his family, the Lanes owned and operated the family dairy farm until his retirement in 1999. 

George enjoyed flying, and had his private pilot’s license.  He loved his Ford vehicles, and John Deere tractors.  He also loved meeting with his “support group” for coffee.  George was proud of his dedication to farming and farm life.

In keeping with his wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral service.  Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Houseville Cemetery.  George has donated his body to the Anatomical Gift Program at SUNY Upstate Medical University.  Arrangements are with Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.  Contributions in his memory may be made to Lewis County Humane Society, P.O.
