SARANAC LAKE/WATERTOWN – Dr. Maurice F. Kenny, 86, passed away Saturday afternoon, April 16, 2016, at Adirondack Medical Center, Saranac Lake.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 19, 2016, in Brookside Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Arrangements are with Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.
Dr. Kenny was born on August 16, 1929 in Watertown, NY, a son of the late Andrew and Doris Herrick Kenny. He attended Watertown schools, and for many years he lived and studied in New York City. Dr. Kenny taught English Literature and Creative Writing at Paul Smith’s College, SUNY Potsdam, and North Country Community College. He has written several poems and short stories, and has travelled worldwide, sharing his poetry. On June 3, 2014, Dr. Kenny was inducted into the New York State Writer’s Hall of Fame.
Dr. Kenny was a member of the New York State Teacher’s Association, and a member of the Academy of American Poets.
He is survived by his niece, Martha and Stephen Millard; and nephews, Richard and Cathy Mothersell; and Patrick and Brenda Mothersell. He is also survived by extended family, along with a large group of friends and colleagues. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Kenny Mothersell and Agnes Kenny.
