LOWVILLE- Thelma Adams Axtell, 92, passed away on Wednesday evening, March 13, 2019 at her home, under the loving care of her family and Lewis County Hospice. A graveside service will be held in the spring in Port Leyden Cemetery, Port Leyden, NY, at the convenience of the family.
Thelma is survived by three sons and two daughter-in-laws, Paul and Judy Axtell, of Port Leyden; Bruce and Pat Axtell, of Lyons Falls; Mark Axtell, of Lowville; five grandchildren; a sister, Betty Cook, of Utica, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a sister Irene Gydesen.
Thelma was born on June 11, 1926 in Port Leyden, a daughter of the late Clarence and Nettie Lane Adams. She graduated from Port Leyden High School in 1945 and she lived in Port Leyden until moving to Lowville in 1964, to her current residence in December,1999. Thelma worked as a nurse’s aide at Lewis County General Hospital during the 1960’s and later she worked for Lewis County Opportunities.
Thelma enjoyed reading, going to Bingo, and working on puzzles.
