Ruth Meyer Obituary

CASTORLAND – Ruth E. Meyer, 86, of Swiss Road, Castorland, passed away Tuesday October 10, 2023 at Lewis County Health System Hospital, Lowville.

A calling hour will be held on Friday, October 13, 2023 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at St. Stephen’s Church, Croghan.  A funeral Mass will be said at 11:00 a.m. at the church with Rev. Donald Manfred, Pastor, officiating.  Burial will be at St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Croghan.  A luncheon at St. Stephen’s fellowship hall will immediately follow the burial, all are welcome.  Any food donations may be brought directly to the church fellowship hall on Friday morning.   Contributions may be made to the Meyer n’ More Relay for Life Team, in care of Elizabeth Porter, 30629 County Route 49, Black River, NY  13612 or St. Stephen’s Cemetery, P.O. Box 38, Croghan, NY 13327.   Arrangements are with Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.

She is survived by two grandsons, Jordan (Christina) Christman and their daughters, AnnaBelle and Malaya of Copenhagen, Matthew (Shantel) Christman, and their daughters, Briella and Alivia of West Carthage; her sister Donna Davis and her brothers Don (Sharon) Babcock and Mike (Willi) Babcock, her sister-in-law Norma Jones , her foster brother-in-law Eddie Mothersell, and  many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is predeceased by her husband Donald; a daughter, Beth Ann Meyer; a son-in-law, David Christman; two sisters, Christina Miles and Rose Morgan; and three  brothers, Joseph, John, and Sherman Babcock.

Ruth was born on July 14, 1937, in West Carthage, a daughter of the late Joseph and Florence Blanchard Babcock.  She graduated from Carthage High School with the class of 1955. She married Donald H. Meyer on August 17, 1957 at the Judge’s chamber in the court house.

Ruth was a communicant of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, Croghan. She was a lifetime member of the Carthage VFW auxiliary.  Ruth enjoyed gambling, playing on her computer, family gatherings, and most of all, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She had an extensive telephone network of family and friends who were her life lines after Donnie  passed away.
