Roman M. Kolenda

LOWVILLE- Roman M. Kolenda, 67 passed away Monday morning February 12, 2024 in his home Valley View Courts, Lowville.

Surviving are his two sons, Ryan (Casie) Kolenda and Bryan (Jessica) Kolenda; grandchildren, Devin, Kally, Tucker, Mara, Parker, and Warner; a brother, Zyggi (Shelly) Kolenda and sisters, Janina (David) McGrath, and MaryLou (Ronald) Plante; in addition to many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins, Roman is predeceased by his mother and father and beloved grandmother Michalina “Babcia” Dembicki.

Roman was born in Bayonne, New Jersey, July 3, 1956, son of Zygmunt and Janina Dembicka Kolenda.  He attended Sacred Heart Catholic School in New Jersey until moving to Tempe, Arizona.  Roman graduated from McClintock High School in 1974, and moving to New York as a young adult.  He married Debra Kline in 1980, raising two twin sons, Ryan R. and Bryan B. Kolenda, separating in 2004.  Roman worked many local jobs over the years.  His passion, however, was small engine mechanics for multiple years at Lowville Sport and Farm.  He spent years maintaining the Montague transfer station each Sunday.  Roman gained many friends, who became his family in the Tug Hill area.  He was known for his friendly welcomes of “hey there” and contagious laugh.   Roman won over the hearts of many locals. Besides his time with his two boys, Roman loved to travel as much as he could, leaving a mark wherever he went.  His presence was nothing short of recognizable.  Even if you didn’t know Roman personally, you knew who he was by his description.  His camp on the Flat Rock Road was his home away from home.  It was his safe haven, full of memories, laughs, learned experiences and hunting stories.  Roman is truly missed and loved by so many friends and family. We all wait faithfully for the day we reconnect and see your new healthy legs, strong and sturdy.

Calling hours will be from 2:00 -5:00 p.m. on Monday, February 19, 2024 at Iseneker Funeral Home Inc. 5702 Waters Road, Lowville, with a funeral service to follow at 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Tanya Roy officiating..  Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.  A Celebration of Life gathering at Montague Inn will immediately follow the funeral service, all are welcome.  Montague Inn was one of Roman’s favorite places to stop.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to help with funeral expenses by clicking on the donate button on Roman’s obituary at www.isenekerfuneralhome.com, or by mail at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., 5702 Waters Road, Lowville, NY 13367.    Please consider helping Roman’s family during their time of need.
