CROGHAN-Michael Henry Kampney passed away on Friday, October 13, 2023 at his home in Croghan, NY. He was born in Carthage, NY, on September 1, 1960, a son of Leo Kampney and Dorothy Myers.
Mike graduated from Lowville Academy in 1978. Mike grew up in Soft Maple, lived in Lowville before purchasing property on the New Road in Croghan, NY, later buying property on County Route 143, in Black River, before he returned to his New Road property to retire.
Mike worked various farmhand jobs for Lyndaker Excavating & Trucking, the Lowville Cheese Plant, his own firewood business and several taxi companies before starting his own cab company, JNL Taxi, that provided reliable and friendly service to Fort Drum for many years. Mike, lastly, worked as a Domino's pizza delivery driver on Fort Drum before his retirement. Mike enjoyed the outdoors and taking long drives. However, JNL Taxi and his family were ultimately what he was most proud of from his life’s accomplishments.
Mike was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend, whose absence will be deeply felt by all who knew him. He is survived by his children, Joy Kampney Hirschey and Jeremy Kampney, with Darlene Leaf, Nickolas Kampney and Noah Kampney, with Teresa Taylor, his two chosen daughters, April Hall and Mikhaila Taylor, his six grandchildren, his siblings, Stephanie, Aden and Bill and a large extended family. He was predeceased by his parents, Leo Kampney and Dorothy “Dottie” Myers Knight.
A private graveside service will be at St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Croghan, with Rev. Donald Manfred, Pastor of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, officiating.
