Linda O'Leary Obituary

LOWVILLE- It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Linda M. O’Leary, affectionately known as “Miss O”.  She passed away on Sunday evening, April 14, 2024 at her home, under the care of her family, dear friends and Lewis County Hospice.

She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Retired Marine Colonel Ronald O’Leary (Sarah) of Philomath, OR; a sister, Sally O’Leary Harris of Mattydale; nieces and nephews, Kathleen (Vince) Agugliaro, Sean (Simeko) O’Leary; Sheila Stone; Margaret (Roger) Hendricks; Neil (Tiffany) O’Leary; great nieces , great-nephews; one great-great niece; many cousins; some very dear friends who she considered family, Lucy Foltyniak, Jane Nuffer, Kate Turck; Bob Wright; her Food Pantry family; and her Doyle’s Pub family.  She is predeceased by a brother-in-law, Frederick Earl Harris and a niece Dolores “Deigh” Weaver.

Linda was born on September 13, 1946 in Lowville, NY a daughter of the late Cornelius and Mae Schneider O’Leary.  She graduated from Lowville Academy in 1964 and from SUNY Brockport in 1967.  Linda then began her teaching career at Beaver River Central School soon thereafter.  She taught and coached modified sports, including softball and  bowling until her retirement in 2011.  Miss O was active in our local community, serving on the Board of Directors and was an active volunteer for the Lowville Food Pantry, she was also on the Board of Directors for the Beaver Falls Grange; A member of NYS United Teachers; a member of Lewis County Memorial Post #6912 Ladies Auxiliary; and was a member of the Adirondack Mountain Club.  Miss O loved running and could be seen all over Lowville and beyond. She always would stop and visit friends and neighbors along the way as she met them on the sidewalk.  Miss O loved to travel, especially to New Zealand, Russia, China, Cuba, Galapagos Islands, South America, Europe, Africa, Greece and Spain.  She also enjoyed family trips to Las Vegas, and numerous places around the world.  Miss O has been to six continents and 46 states.  She enjoyed visiting museums, especially on girls trips with her sister and two nieces.

Miss O has generously donated her body as an anatomical gift to SUNY Upstate Medical University, Syracuse.  All are welcome to attend a Celebration of Life Gathering that be held from 2-5 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Beaver River Central School High School Cafeteria.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Lowville Food Pantry, 5502 Trinity Ave., Lowville, NY 13367 or Tug Hill Tomorrow Land Trust, 120 Washington Street, Suite 510, Watertown, NY 13601.  Arrangements are with Iseneker  Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.
