LOWVILLE
Dear family and friends:
It is with deep sadness that I announce the passing of my beloved fiancé Joseph Patrick “Joe” O'Brien, 55, of West Martinsburg Road. He passed away on Sunday morning, June 25, 2023 at the VA Medical Center in Syracuse after a one year battle with pancreatic cancer.
Joe’s survivors include myself and my children, Christina and Brent; his daughter, Josephine G. O'Brien and her companion, Michael Fuller of Watertown; his son, Joseph T. O'Brien of Lowville; his father and stepmother, George M. and Helen O'Brien of Dover, DE; a sister, Susan M. Brewer of Roanoke, IN; a half-sister, Chrystal R. O'Brien of Florida; a stepson, Timothy J. Lawrence and his son, T.J. of Blythe, GA; a stepdaughter, Katrina M. Lawrence Gionet and her companion, Tom Burns of Oswego; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by his wife, Judith Lawrence O’Brien; his mother, Constance M. O'Brien; a brother, George O'Brien Jr.; a nephew, Joseph Brewer; a brother-in-law, David Brewer and a stepson-in-law, Daniel Gionet.
Joe was born July 27, 1967 in Brooklyn, NY and graduated from East Islip High School. He joined the United States Coast Guard, serving from1985 to 1988, which brought him to the Thousand Islands area. He worked at a couple of restaurants in Clayton as well as a few other odd jobs including landscaping, which he loved very much. After the restaurants in Clayton, he began working at Bob Evans in Watertown where we met. In 2011 he began working at The Hilton Garden Inn before completely changing work fields by entering into truck driving in 2015. In 2016, I decided to join him on the road by getting my CDL also and we traveled the country coast to coast and border to border, driving through 47 of the lower 48 states via tractor trailer. After coming off the road in 2017, Joe began working at Kraft in Lowville. In 2020, he began working at Walmart in Lowville, until he found his way back to his passion of cooking at Tony Harper’s Pizza & Clam Shack in Old Forge in 2022.
His favorite things to do were gardening, fishing and hunting. But, most of all his passions were cooking, and spending his precious non-working time with me, and family.
We will be having a Celebration of Life gathering on Friday, July 14, 2023 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at my sister’s house (Jennifer Engelhart), 5691 Whitaker Road, Martinsburg. Any food donations may be delivered to my sister’s home any time after 10:00 a.m. on Friday.
Joe’s burial will be held privately at the convenience of our families.
All my love always,
Renee
