John H. Widrick

SYRACUSE - John H. Widrick, 90 of 216 Everingham Road, Syracuse, NY passed away on Thursday, February 29, 2024 at his home.

There will be calling hours held on Friday, March 8, 2024 from 11:00am to 1:00pm followed by a funeral service at 1:00pm at the Croghan Mennonite Church, Kirschnerville Road, Croghan, with nephews officiating.  Burial will follow in the Croghan Mennonite Church Cemetery.

John is survived by his beloved wife, Rita; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.  He is predeceased by his brothers and sisters, Fannie Lyndaker, Milford Widrick, Arlene Zehr, Lloyd Widrick, Barbara M. Brown, Arthur Widrick and Saviera Cooper.

John was born on February 11, 1934 in Harrisburg, NY, the son of the late Joel and Rachael Gingerich Widrick.  He attended Copenhagen Central School and enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving his country from 1954 to 1956.  Following his service he worked in the logging business.  John met his lifelong love, Rita J. Woodhouse and they were united in marriage on January 9, 1960 at Beaver Falls United Methodist Church with Rev. Bird officiating.  John worked various jobs for many years before going to work as Maintenance Supervisor for Nob Hill Apartments in Syracuse for 15 years, until his retirement.  After his retirement he worked for Loretto Nursing Home just because he loved the people. 

John enjoyed playing cards and games.  He especially loved being with his nephews while playing baseball, football and basketball.  John was well known for caring for his neighborhood.
