John Rubar Obituary

CASTORLAND- John Peter Rubar, 77, of Artz Road, died Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at Upstate Medical University Hospital, Syracuse.  

In keeping with John’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral service.  Burial will be held privately by the family.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Railroad Historical Society of Northern New York, P.O. Box 317, Croghan, NY 13327; St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929 or a charity of one’s choice.  Arrangements are with Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.

He is survived by his wife of over 53 years Dorothy; four children and their spouses, Lisa and Stan Proulx of Castorland, Lori and Chris Bowhall of Castorland, Heidi and Jason Richardson of Arlington, TN, John Rubar of Castorland; two sisters, Marie Knowlton of Lowville and Joan Smith of Lehigh Acres, FL; six grandchildren, Ashley, Luke, Hayleigh, Zane, Amelia and Allison; nieces, nephews and cousins.  He is predeceased by two daughters who died at birth, Jane Marie and Terry Ann Rubar; a son-in-law, Barry LaMountain; and his father and mother-in-law, Reuben and Mary Noftsier.

John was born on September 7, 1940 in the Carthage, New York, a son of the late Harold and Nellie Russell Rubar.  He graduated from Beaver River Central School in 1960 and and served in the U.S. Navy from 1960-1964.  On September 2, 1964, he married Dorothy J. Noftsier at the Evangelical United Brethren Church, Beaver Falls with Rev. McCleary officiating. He worked as a carpenter at Ft. Drum for over 20 years, retiring in 2001.  He was a member of Emmaus Bible Fellowship at Maple Ridge.  John was a retired member of the Beaver Falls Fire Department and a past member of Beaver River Memorial Post #1663.  He enjoyed his model railroad and spending time doing handy work in his carpentry shop.
