James William McAvoy

CARTHAGE- James William McAvoy, 71, of Putman Hill Road, passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2024 at Carthage Area Hospital.

He is survived by his four children, Brian and Heather McAvoy of Mississippi, Justen and Kayla McAvoy of Virginia, Joseph McAvoy of Mississippi, and Jessica and her companion, Rusty of Virginia; grandsons, Zachary, Blake, Devin, Colton, and  Grayson; granddaughters, Haylie, Laynie, Jaylin, Brinxlee; step-grandson, Scott Anthony Goff; sisters, Cheryl LaQuay of Calcium, Vickie Spencer of Carthage.  He was predeceased by his mother, Ruth McAvoy Putman; his father, Glen McAvoy, and his brother, John Putman.

James was born in Watertown, NY on April 21, 1952, a son of the late Glenn and Ruth Lowe McAvoy.  He graduated from Carthage High School.  He served in the U.S. Navy from 1972-1973.  James also worked as an auto mechanic for many years.  He loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing, and working /restoring vehicles.  James also enjoyed receiving pictures and goodies from Madison and Jameson Mast.  He is going to be greatly missed!
