Gayle was born on November 19, 1950 in Plattsburgh, NY, the eldest daughter of the late Glynn E. and            Roberta M. Lamoy. She graduated from Peru High School in 1968 and from Albany Medical Center School of Nursing in 1971. On September 11, 1971, she married Bruce E. Hirschey at the Peru Community Church in Peru, NY.   Gayle worked as a nurse for Dr. Reed, Lewis County Public Health, and then as a Registered Nurse in the Maternity Ward at Lewis County General Hospital until her retirement in 2008.

Gayle was an active member of the Apostolic Christian Church of America, Croghan, and volunteered for many years in the church’s community outreach activities.  She passionately participated in several annual community events and activities, quilting and sewing circles, and loved attending local sporting  and musical events of family and friends.

Gayle was particularly fond of each of her grandchildren and great grandchildren, always sharing stories and photos of them with friends and strangers alike.  She enjoyed travel with her husband Bruce by car, motorcycle, train and plane, visiting old friends and making many new ones along the way, reaching almost all 50 states and many Provinces of Canada. She enjoyed quilting and sewing many things, and will certainly be missed for her cherished pot holders.  She was quite fond of her flowers, gardening, visiting green houses and gardens wherever she went, and collecting sharks teeth at the beach with her husband, all while keeping the birds of their hometown of Castorland NY well-fed and observed.  May her soul now take flight to join the heavenly flock of departed family, friends and colleagues she so longed to be reunited with.
