Evelyn Bauer Obituary

BOONVILLE/GREIG - Evelyn Bauer, 90, formerly of Brantingham Road, Greig, passed away on October 10, 2023 at Lewis County Health System Hospital, Lowville.  Most recently, Evelyn had resided at Sunset Nursing Home, Boonville, for the past several years.

A funeral Mass will be said Wednesday, October 18, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Lowville, with Rev. Severinus Torwoe, Pastoral Vicar, officiating.  Burial will be in the Brantingham Cemetery.  A luncheon at Lewis County Marine Corps League #754, Farney Hall, 7429 State Route 12, Lowville, will immediately follow the burial, all are welcome.  Any food donations may be taken directly there on Wednesday, beginning at 10:00 a.m.  Calling hours will be on Tuesday October 17, 2023 from 5-7 p.m. at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.  Contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Michael A. and Justine Bauer of Greig; Joseph A. and Angela Bauer of Greig; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan M. and Thomas Meyer of Palmyra; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren; two nieces, and several cousins.  She was predeceased by her husband, Alexander F. Bauer, Jr., who died March 25, 2006; and by a sister, Mary Mayer.

Evelyn was born on July 23, 1933 in Garfield, NJ, a daughter of the late Michael  and Mary Kirchmayer Filko.  She graduated from Garfield High School in 1951 and St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing in Passaic, NJ in 1954.  On September 11, 1954, she married Alexander F. Bauer, Jr. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Passaic, NJ.  Evelyn worked at St. Mary’s Hospital from 1954 until 1958, and worked at Fairlawn Memorial Hospital from 1963 until 1973.  The family moved to Greig in July 1973, and Evelyn began working at Lewis County General Hospital, first as a float nurse until 1977, and then as a nursing supervisor until her retirement in 1997.

She was a communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Glenfield.  Evelyn sang with the choir for the Catholic Community of St. Peter’s, St. Mary’s and St. Hedwig’s churches.  Evelyn enjoyed reading, crocheting, cooking, music and computers.  She especially enjoyed time spent with her family and playing with her grandchildren.
