Carol Cathcart Obituary

WATSON-Carol Ann Cathcart - 83, of Watson, passed away peacefully at home Saturday March 9, 2024 under the loving care of Lewis County Hospice and her nephew & niece; Brian & Jen Hewitt and their children.

Carol was born to James O. & Lena M. Hewitt in Gouverneur on November 3rd, 1940. The family later moved to Oswego and there is where Carol grew up, attending Oswego schools and working to help her family.  Carol loved socializing and would share conversation with anyone she met. This being much of the reason why she enjoyed her years of employment as a waitress, in many of what, at the time, were Oswego’s first restaurants.

She enjoyed shopping, gardening, gatherings for any reason, and spending time with family & friends alike.

From 2014-2020 she spent winters in Florida where deep friendships were made as well as cherished memories that turned into many shared stories.

After visiting Brian, Jen and their family for many years she made the decision in the winter of 2019 that come the summer of 2020, Watson would become her home. While here, she developed an even greater love for the outdoors. Spending her days and nights on the patio or in the backyard around the “huge friggen fire pit” sipping her coffee or wine; becoming her most favorite thing to do.

Living in Lewis County, she became Aunt Carol to many. She shared in many gatherings, always bringing fun, smiles & laughter to everyone around her. Carol will undoubtedly be remembered, honored and deeply missed by many.

Carol is predeceased by her parents, her husband Gene Ropelewski; 3 grandsons, Taylor Sheridan, Kevin Sheridan Jr. & Markee Cathcart. Her brothers Arthur, Ronald, Richard, Robert & Charles and sisters Marian, Arlene & Diane.

Along with her dear nephew Brian, his wife Jen & their children, Carol is survived by her six children; Keith (Cathy) Sheridan, Kevin (Lorie) Sheridan, Kim (Mark) McPherson, Shawn Cathcart; all of Oswego, Kathy Sheridan & her partner Gary and Erin Cathcart, both of Syracuse. Carol is also survived by her last living sibling; Jeanette Woods of Clinton, Massachusetts. She has 15 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends & a very special man she considered her own for most of his life, Nick Miller of Oswego.

Per her wishes there will be no services. Burial will be private at St. Peters Cemetery in Oswego at a later date.

Carol asks that when the date is announced, if possible, you join Brian, Jen & their family at their home for food, drinks, conversation & laughter around the “big friggen fire pit”. Live your life, eat the cake, dance, laugh and drink the wine!
