CROGHAN-A graveside service with Military Honors for Carl Joseph Schack, 84, of Belfort Road, will be at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, May 26, 2023 at St. Stephen’s Cemetery, Croghan.  He passed away Thursday afternoon, March 23, 2023 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Utica.  Arrangements are with Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.

 

 

 

 

CROGHAN-Carl Joseph Schack, 84, of Belfort Road, passed away Thursday afternoon, March 23, 2023 at St. Luke’s Hospital, New Hartford.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Verna; a daughter and son-in-law Laurie and David Halladay, and a step-granddaughter, Dana; two siblings and their-spouses, Timothy and Lena Schack of Pennsylvania; Mary Elizabeth and Bill Nenstill of NC; a sister-in-law Crystal Schack of Massena; several nieces, nephews and cousins.  He is predeceased by siblings, Bernard, Robert, and Joseph Schack, Lucille Lobbly and Theresa Schack.

Carl was born on December 23, 1938 in Carthage, NY, a son of the late Leo V. and Mary Jarecki Schack.  He attended Augustinian Academy and graduated from Father Leo Memorial School in 1956.  While in school, he worked on the Preston Brennan Farm in Carthage, also other area farms and at Dadville Tree Nursery.  Carl started working for Climax Manufacturing in Castorland in 1959.  He served in the U.S. Army from 1962-1964 as a Military Policeman.  After his service, he returned to Climax Manufacturing for a total of 42 years, retiring in 2000.  After retirement, he worked for the Village of Croghan as needed.

Carl was a communicant of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, Croghan, and was a devotee to the Divine Mercy.  He was a member of Beaver River Memorial Post #1663.  Carl was a volunteer fireman and served with fire police for over 62 years.  He loved to help anyone at the drop of a hat.

Carl has generously donated his body as an anatomical gift to Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, NY.  

A memorial Mass will be said at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, Croghan with Rev. Donald Manfred officiating.  There will be no calling hours.  A luncheon at St. Stephen’s Parish Hall will immediately follow the Memorial Mass, all are welcome.  Burial with Military Honors will be at a later date in St. Stephen’s Cemetery.  Contributions may be made in memory of Carl to St. Stephen’s Church Restoration Fund, P.O. Box 38, Croghan, NY 13327 or Croghan Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 405, Croghan, NY 13327.  Arrangements are with Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.
