Arthur Houppert Obituary

LOWVILLE/CASTORLAND – Arthur Roy Houppert, 89, formerly of East Road Adult Home, and Cut Off Road, passed away Tuesday morning, August 15, 2023 at Hospice of Jefferson County. 

A funeral Mass will be said at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 21, 2023 at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church in Croghan with Rev. Donald Manfred, Pastor officiating. Calling hours will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Monday, August 21, 2023 at the church prior to the funeral Mass.  Burial with Military Honors will follow the funeral in St. Stephen’s Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to Hospice of Jefferson County, 1398 Gotham Street, Watertown, NY  13601.  Arrangements are with Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.

Arthur is survived by his children, Wayne Houppert (Joan) of Castorland; Clinton Houppert (Theresa) of Castorland; Laurie Murphy (Craig) of Castorland; Greg Houppert (Susan) of Black River; Virginia Jessman (Bill) of Castorland; Kimberly Eiss of Whitesboro; a son-in-law, Andy Tabolt of Lowville; 18 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a great-great granddaughter; two brothers, Russell Houppert of Lowville; Rodney Houppert (Jane) of Castorland; several nieces, nephews and cousins.  He is predeceased by his wife, Carole Houppert; his second wife, Shirley Houppert; a son, Craig, who died at birth; four daughters, Kathleen, who died at birth; Melody Houppert; Dawn Gascho; and Linda Tabolt; and his siblings, Walter Houppert; Harold Houppert; Stanley Houppert; Beatrice Kloster; and Helen Thompson.

Arthur was born in Lowville on October 24, 1933, a son of the late Clinton J. and Bertha Dicob Houppert. He attended Father Leo Memorial School and enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  After his service, he worked on the Norbert Steiner farm on the Cut Off Road.  On May 14, 1955 he married Carole Cobb at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, Croghan.  Together with his wife, the couple purchased the dairy farm in the early 1970s, and operated the farm until their retirement in 1995.  Carole passed away on September 26, 1996.  On December 7, 1997, he married Shirley Turck at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, Croghan.  Shirley passed away on March 26, 2022.

Arthur was a communicant of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, Croghan.  He was a member of Beaver River Memorial Post #1663, Croghan.
