Alfred Bender Obituary

LOWVILLE – Alfred William Bender, 63, of Number Four Road, passed away Sunday morning, February 13, 2022 at his home, under the care of his loving family and Lewis County Hospice. 

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville with Pastor Joseph Fellows, officiating.  A luncheon at the Lewis County Marine Corps League Det. #754, Farney Hall, 7429 State Route 12, Lowville, will immediately follow the funeral service.  All are welcome.  Any food donations may be taken directly to the Marine Corps League beginning at 12:00 noon on Saturday.   Burial will be in Beaches Bridge Cemetery at the convenience of the family.  Calling hours will be from 1-3 p.m., prior to the funeral service, at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to help with funeral expenses by clicking on the donations button on Alfred’s obituary at www.isenekerfuneralhome.com, also by mail to Mrs. Sandra Bender, 6529 Number Four Road, Lowville, NY 13367 or at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., 5702 Waters Road, Lowville, NY 13367.    Please consider helping Alfred’s family during their time of need.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Sandra; five children, James “Jay” and Athena Bender of Lowville; Mollie and Curtis Kimball of Fort Lee VA; Joshua Bender of Port Leyden; Travis Bender and his companion, Madyson Gill of Carthage; Abigail Bender at home; a grandson whom they raised and thought of as a son, Ethan Bender at home; and many grandchildren; also surviving are his siblings, Alvis and Bonnie Bender of Naumburg; Arlin and Sharon Bender of WI; Addison and Katrina Bender of WI; Tammy and Walter Lehman of Croghan; Merle and Carol Yoder of MD; Leona Bender of PA; Loretta and David Steinhauer of DE, a sister-in-law, Janet Yoder of PA; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is predeceased by, a daughter-in-law, Sallyann Renee Bender, who passed away on November 9, 2014; a sister, Penny Keefer; two brothers-in-law, Loren Bender and Arliss Yoder. 

Alfred was born November 29, 1958 in Lowville, a son of the late Austin and Arletha Zehr Bender.  He attended school locally and later got his GED.  Alfred started driving log truck at the age of sixteen. On May 8, 1982, he married Sandra Hutchins at Boonville United Methodist Church.  Alfred later went to tractor trailer driving school and drove tractor trailer for over thirty years for various companies until he became sick.  He battled cancer for ten years.

Alfred was a member of the Boonville Baptist Church where he served as deacon and was active with the youth group at church.  Alfred felt most at peace during his walks in nature, and during his time at the family river property. Alfred was a true conversationalist and enjoyed long talks with everyone. He was a father figure to many younger people he met.
