Sherwood John "Sonny" Herzig

CROGHAN – Sherwood John Herzig, “Sonny,” 84, of Yousey Lane, passed away Friday, morning, March 1, 2019, at Sunset Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Boonville.

A prayer service will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., with Rev. Donald Manfred, officiating.  Spring burial will be at St Vincent De Paul  Cemetery, Belfort.   There will be no calling hours.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lewis County Humane Society, P.O. Box 682, Lowville, N.Y. 13367.

Sherwood was born on July 16, 1934 at home in Belfort, a son of the late John F. and Eva Martin Herzig and attended country school in Belfort.  Sherwood worked in the woods logging his whole life. Sherwood enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, and working on small engines and cars. He also enjoyed stock car racing; and snowmobiling in his younger years.   

He is survived by his three siblings, Helena “Sis” Call, of Clayton, Jane and (Rodney) Houppert, of Castorland, Lonnie and (Christine) Herzig of Croghan; several nieces, nephews and cousins. Sherwood was predeceased by a brother Ronald Herzig; a brother-in-law Herbert Call; and a sister-in-law Janet Herzig.
