Lowaine Woolschlager Obituary

GLENFIELD – Lowaine A. “Wink” Woolschlager, 85, passed away early, Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at Lewis County General Hospital.

Calling hours will be held from 3-7 p.m. on Friday, May 25, 2018 at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc.  A prayer service with Military Honors will be at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at the funeral Home, with a funeral service to be held at First Mennonite Church, New Bremen at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 26, 2018 with Pastor Ed Steckly officiating.  Burial will be at First Mennonite Church Cemetery. Contributions may be made to First Mennonite Church.

He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 65 years, Dorothy; his 3 children, Sandra Jean Woolschlager of Glenfield, Scott Lowaine (Christina) Woolschlager of Glenfield, and Suzette Joy (Fred) Cole of Glenfield; 3 grandchildren, Lucy (Garrett) Austin, Emily Cole, and Megan (Derek) Weber, 2 great grandsons, Caleb Earl Austin and Mason Lowaine Weber; a brother and sister-in-law, Elwin and Mary Woolschlager of Lowville; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is predeceased by a brother Calson Royce Woolschlager, who died at age 2.

Wink was born on February 15, 1933 in the Town of New Bremen, NY, a son of the late Arthur W. and Lucy Virkler Woolschlager. He graduated from Lowville Academy in 1951 and worked on the family farm. On June 24, 1953 he married Dorothy M. Lehman at Evangelical United Brethren Church in Beaver Falls, NY with Rev. Norman D, officiating. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served from 1953 to 1957 during the Korean War. After his service, he worked at the block mill in Croghan, V.S. Virkler for 2 years, and Lowville Farmer’s Co-op until taking over his parent’s farm in 1962. He owned and operated his parent’s farm for a number of years before selling the farm, and going to work for Carl Zehr for carpentry work. He then drove bus for Lowville, and then Copenhagen for 17 ½ years, retiring in 1995.

Wink was a member of the First Mennonite Church, New Bremen. He was a life member of Lewis County Memorial Post #6912, a member of Lowville American Legion #162, a life member of Lowville Fish and Game, and a member of BPOE #1605, Lowville Elks Lodge. He enjoyed bowling since bowling came to Lowville, and bowled on a league for AMF. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, snow sledding, and four wheeling.
