SOUTH COLTON/LOWVILLE - William J. “Jim” Welch, Jr., 85, formerly of South Colton, died Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at the Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility, Lowville. 

William was born April 1, 1931 in Plattsburgh, NY, a son of the late William J. Welch, Sr. and Eva Prairie Welch.  He enlisted and served in U. S. Air Force.  He married Sharron Parrow.  She died in 2012.  Jim was a custodian for SUNY Potsdam for more than 17 years. 

Mr. Welch was of Catholic faith.  He was a lifetime member of Norwood American Legion, AMVETS, and VFW of Colton, Russell, Norwood and Potsdam.  Jim enjoyed puzzles, and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by a son-in-law, John Kirch; four grandchildren, Chakriya Anne Thomas; Christopher James Kirch; Christian Robert Kirch; and Calder William Kirch.  He was predeceased by his wife, Sharron Ann Welch who died in October 2012; his daughter, Mary Anne Kirch, who died on July 2013; and by his son, William J. Welch III, who died in June 2014.

Calling hours will be Friday, July 1, 2016 from 5 – 7 p.m. at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., 5702 Waters Road, Lowville.  A funeral service will be held Saturday, July 2, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Mr. Ronald Pominville officiating.  Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Colton, NY at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 2, 2016.  Contributions may be made to your local AMVETS or American Legion.
