Royal A. Widrick

December 29, 1931 ~ November 7, 2017 (age 85) 85 Years Old


CARTHAGE – Royal A. Widrick, 85, of Old State Road, went to be with the Lord very peacefully on Tuesday evening, November 7, 2017 at home with his family by his side, under the care of hospice.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at Naumburg Mennonite Church. Burial will follow at Naumburg Mennonite Cemetery.  Calling hours are from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, November 10, 2017 at Naumburg Mennonite Church.   

Royal is survived by his wife Arlene, his children, Larry Widrick, of Watertown,  NY; Lonnie and Charlene Widrick of Lowville, Debby and Steve Roggie of Falcon, CO; Lynn and Teresa Widrick of Lowville, and Shari and Nate Roggie of Colorado Springs, CO; 11 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and growing. He is also survived by his two sisters, Dorothy and Willie Zehr of Carthage, Laverne and Tom Terrillion, MT; and two brothers Gordon and Margarette Widrick of Croghan, NY; Wayne Widrick of Watertown; a sister-in-law, Lila Widrick of Croghan.   He is predeceased by his parents, Allen and Anna Widrick; and his siblings, Richard (Jane) Widrick and Kenneth Widrick.

He was born on December 29, 1931 in the town of New Bremen, NY, a son of the late Allen and Anna Herzig Widrick.  Royal married Arlene Roggie on May 27, 1954 at Lowville Mennonite Church by Reverend Lloyd Boshart.  They have been married for 63 years. Arlene is the daughter of the late John and Ione Roggie.

Royal attended country school at Kirschnerville and Beaver Falls School. He worked on the family farm in the town of Croghan and drove snowplow.  After his marriage, he drove tractor trailers for area companies for 34 years. He did body and fender repair out of his own shop for the remainder of his employed years. He enjoyed the great outdoors spending most of his time fishing, hunting, traveling, and camping with his family. He enjoyed blue grass festivals and gospel music. He had his pilot license and enjoyed flying for many years.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to Naumburg Mennonite Church Building Fund, 5463 St. Rt. 410, Castorland, NY 13620.
