GLENFIELD – Rose M. Spann, 77, passed away Saturday evening, June 25, 2016, in the comfort of her home. 

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 30, 2016, in Old Glendale Cemetery.  There will be no calling hours.  A luncheon will immediately follow the burial at the 3 – G Fire Hall.  Contributions may be made to Old Glendale Cemetery, c/o Darlene Burdick, 4753 State Route 12, Glenfield, NY  13343.  Arrangements are with Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.  

She is survived by her children, Randy and Sue Spann of Glenfield; Rhonda Spann and her partner, Kurt Gould of Copenhagen; four grandchildren, Justin Spann, Heather Paluck, Melinda Seeley, Collin Hoskins; four great-grandchildren, Camron Michael Spann, Mia James Spann, Audrina Rose Seeley, Briella Marie Staie and two on the way, and two step great-granddaughters, Saralynn Farber and Skylar Ammons; an aunt and uncle, Ed and Betty Blake of Vernon, NY; nieces, nephews and cousins.  She is predeceased by her husband, Kenneth C. Spann, who died June 30, 1985; a son, Richard Spann, who died at birth; and a sister, Shirley Stewart.

Rose was born on November 14, 1938 in Lowville, a daughter of the late John and Nellie Dailey Countryman.  She graduated from Lowville Academy in 1956. On June 29, 1957, she married Kenneth C. Spann at Lowville United Methodist Church, with Rev. John Kelly officiating.  Together with her husband, the couple owned and operated a dairy farm on Glendale Road from 1961 until Kenneth’s death in 1985.  Rose and their son Randy continued to operate the farm until 1992, when it was sold.  Rose began work as a legal secretary with Attorney Kenneth B. Wolfe in Lowville in 1956, retiring in 2004 after more than 47 years.    Mrs. Spann was also Town Justice for Town of Martinsburg from January 1, 1978 until retiring December 31, 2013, after 36 years of service.

Rose was a member of the New York State Magistrate’s Association and the Lewis County Magistrates and Court Clerks Association.  She served as President of the Old Glendale Cemetery Board, and was a former member of Lewis County Cooperative Extension, Lowville Producer’s Dairy Cooperative, and Lewis County Alcohol and Substance Abuse Council.  Rose was a member of Lewis County Farm Bureau, the Valley Homemakers, and the Adirondack Scattered Red Hatters.
