LOWVILLE – Richard C. Foster, 77, of Valley View Courts, passed away Tuesday morning, March 20, 2018 at Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility.
In keeping with Richard’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. A graveside service with military honors will be in the spring in Beaches Bridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Lewis County Marine Corps League #754, 7429 State Route 12, Lowville, NY 13367. Arrangements are with Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Heather Foster of Lowville; step-children, David and Marilyn Brashear of Ohio, Linda and Steve Applegate of Ohio, Frances Brashear of Kansas City, Missouri; three grandchildren, Kylie, Corey and Elanie Foster and many step-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Grovene Dorn of Lowville, Thelma Holbrook of Ohio, Ronald Foster of Lowville, and Randy Foster of Malone; several nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by a son Donald Montgomery and two brothers, Alfred “Big Al” Foster, and Robert Foster.
Richard was born on July 9, 1940 in West Carthage, New York, a son of the late Alfred and Dorothy Edick Foster. He attended Carthage Central School and enlisted in the U.S. Marines at the age of 17, serving from 1957-1960. After his service, he returned to the North Country and worked in construction, traveling throughout the U.S. He married Vauda Atkins and the marriage later ended.
Richard was a charter member of Lewis County Marine Corps League Detachment #754, a past member of Lowville American Legion, and life member of Lewis County Memorial Post 6912, Lowville VFW. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, woodworking, and making clocks. Most of all he loved spending time with his grandchildren.
