Michael W. Corey

LYONS FALLS - Michael W. Corey, 64, of McAlpine Street, Lyons Falls, died on Tuesday afternoon, June 28, 2016 at The Highlands at Brighton, Rochester, NY. 

He is survived by his wife, Patty; a brother and his wife, David J. and Sandra K. Corey of Leo, Indiana; two nephews, Shawn M. Corey of Stafford, Virginia; Matthew R. Corey of Saginaw, Texas; two great-nieces, KateLynne Corey and Katherine Corey.

Michael was born June 24, 1952 in Albany, NY, a son of the late William B. Corey and Barbara Jones Corey.  Michael was a Boy Scout, earning his Eagle Scout, the highest honor in scouting.  He graduated from Maple Hill High School in Castleton, NY in 1970, and attended the University of Scranton, earning both his undergraduate and graduate degrees.  On July 28, 1989, he married Patricia Bellinger at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Port Leyden.  Mr. Corey was a guidance counselor for Beaver River Central School for two years, from 1989 until 1991.  Mike operated Corey Landscape in Albany, and continued its operation in Lewis County.  He worked for Adirondack Central School as a school bus driver, retiring due to health reasons.

Mr. Corey was a communicant of St. Isaac Jogues in Chestertown, NY.    He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, and the Key Club in Castleton, which was active doing service projects in the Village of Castleton.  Mr. Corey was Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop 53 in Castleton for ten years.

Mike enjoyed gardening, reading, and tinkering with small engines.

Calling hours will be held from 6 – 8 p.m., with a prayer service to the close at 8 p.m., on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.    Contributions in his memory may be made to the Lewis County Humane Society, P.O. Box 682, Lowville, NY  13367
