He is survived by his wife of over 57 years, Phyllis; five children, Donne Tiffany of Lowville; Robert Tiffany of Lowville; Cheryl and Brian Kaufmann of Carthage; Sue Houppert of Lowville; Shawn and Becky Tiffany of Lowville; seventeen grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren. Constructing a large family was by far one of his greatest accomplishments. He is also survived by his adopted sister, Shirley Woods of Johnson City; brother-in-law, Ronnie King, Sr., Barnes Corners; sister-in-law, Pat Brasie of Carthage.  He was predeceased by his parents, Ray and Dorothy (Brown) Tiffany; a brother, Robert Ray Tiffany, who passed at age 14 by an unfortunate drowning at Beaver Lake; a son, Douglas, who died at birth; two brothers-in-law, John Brasie and David Bray; and two sisters-in-law, Francis King and Georgiana Lane.

Red was born December 22, 1936 in Lowville, NY at Lewis County General Hospital. He was the youngest of two children of the late Raymond Tiffany and the late Dorothy Brown Tiffany.  He attended Lowville Academy and Central School, and King’s College.  On October 24, 1958, he married Phyllis E. Rohde at Lowville Baptist Church.  Meryl began his working years as a plumber at Brown’s Plumbing. He moved onto Climax Manufacturing in Castorland, NY for a short time, and then proceeded to Western Auto for around 20 years. He spent the remainder of his working years as a custodian at Lowville Academy Central School and retired in the year 2000, after 20 years of service.  Mr. Tiffany also worked in his family businesses, Tiffany’s General Store and Tiffany’s Roaring Brook Restaurant.

During his retirement Red enjoyed detailing cars, constructing miniature trains, as he was an avid model train collector, and painting to keep occupied. He could also be found visiting with friends and family. His grandchildren enjoyed playing cards with him; his favorite game was 31. He was described as quirky and continually making jokes. In his stay at the nursing facility, he was always jovial with the staff. Red was a pleasure to be around and will be greatly missed.  He was a loving husband, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who loved spending time with his family.  Meryl had a love for God, the outdoors and fishing.

Mr. Tiffany was past president of the Lowville Kiwanis Club, and a lifetime member of the Marine Corps League.
