LOWVILLE – Marie E. Stickley Duthie, 91, passed away late Saturday evening, April 28, 2018 at Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility.
The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, May 4, 2018 at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc. with Rev. Leon Runner, Pastor of Lowville Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be held privately by the family. A calling hour will be held from Noon – 1:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service, at the funeral home.
She is survived by her children, Lawrence (Susan) Duthie of Lowville; James “Jim” Duthie of Hillsboro, NH; Paul (Marylou) Duthie of Pembroke, MA; John (Christine) Duthie of Grove City, OH; a brother-in-law, Ernie Marlowe of Milford, MI; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephew and cousins. She is predeceased by her husband William Duthie who died in August, 1993; and two daughters, Nancy, who died in November, 1975, and Susan, who died in October 2013, two brothers, Robert and Richard Stickley, and a sister, Doris Marlowe.
Mrs. Duthie was born on October 13, 1926 in Detroit, Michigan, a daughter of the late Ernest and Pauline Thompson Stickley. She was raised in Detroit, where on August 10, 1946, she married William Duthie. The couple moved to Boston in 1953 where she lived with her family until 1975, when they moved to Toronto Canada, living there until her husband’s death in 1993. She then moved to Alabama to live with her daughter, Susan. In addition to raising a family, she worked a number of jobs, from telephone operator, waitress and factory worker, then in her 50's, she graduated from Quincy Jr. College, becoming an LPN, and worked in several hospitals and nursing homes for a number of years.She was an active church member, taught Sunday school for many years, and sang in the church choirs. She was a life member of Ruggles Baptist Church in Boston, and a member of Poarch Baptist Church in Alabama where she lived with her daughter until her daughter’s death. For the past several years she has been a resident of the Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility.
