Marie L. (Levesque) Burnham

January 29, 1928 ~ October 30, 2016 (age 88) 88 Years Old


PORT LEYDEN – Marie L. Burnham, 88, passed away Sunday morning, October 30, 2016 at the home of her daughter, Donna Bourgeois, with whom she resided.   

A Funeral Mass will be said at 12:00 noon on Friday, November 4, 2016 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Glenfield, with Rev. Christopher Carrara, Pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the Brantingham Cemetery.  A luncheon at the 3 G Fire Department will immediately follow the burial.  All are welcome.  Any food donations may be taken directly to the 3 G Fire Department.  Calling hours will be held from 9 – 11 a.m. on Friday, with a prayer service at 11:00 a.m. at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville. Contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 5457 Shady Ave., Lowville, NY  13367.

She is survived by four daughters and two sons-in-law, Sally and Bruce Schmitt of Turin; Karen Andrews of Lyons Falls; Judy and Paul Axtell of Port Leyden; Donna Bourgeois of Port Leyden; a daughter-in-law, Susan Burnham of Lowville;  a sister, Patricia Watson of Glenfield; four brothers and their wives, Joseph and Margaret Levesque of Lowville; Richard and Marie Levesque of Brantingham; Tom and Sue Levesque of Lyons Falls; Louis and Pat Levesque on Honeoye, NY; a sister-in-law, Lorene Lallier; 13 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.  She is predeceased by her husband, Robert “Basil” Burnham, who died February 13, 2010; two sons, Douglas G. Burnham, who died January 4, 2006; and William C. “Doc” Burnham, who died December 15, 2015; six brothers, Charles Levesque, Claude Levesque, Bernard Lallier, Paul Levesque, George Levesque, and John Levesque. 

Marie was born on January 29, 1928 in Lyons Falls, NY, a daughter of the late Joseph A. and Julia Thibault Levesque.  She attended Lyons Falls School.  Marie worked in Lyonsdale and at the Rome Air Base before her marriage.  On June 15, 1946, she married Robert “Basil” Burnham.  Mrs. Burnham went to work at General Telephone in Lowville and Boonville as a Switchboard Operator for over 30 years, upon retirement.  Marie earned her Certified Nursing Assistant certification through the Howard G. Sackett Technical Center in Glenfield, and cared for the elderly and family members.  She worked as a waitress, and did catering with her sister, Patricia Watson. 

Marie was a communicant of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Glenfield, where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society.  She was a life member of Lewis County Memorial Post #6912 Ladies Auxiliary. 

Marie enjoyed picking flowers and berries, going for rides, and eating out.  She was a great cook.  Marie was known for her generosity to all, including the children, always having a dollar ready for them.  Most of all, she loved spending time with her family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  Marie was a woman of strong faith and generosity.
