LOWVILLE- Joyce H. Schneider, 80, of Ossont Rd. Lowville, passed away Monday afternoon, January 9, 2017 at the Lewis County General Hospital. 

Family and friends are welcome to attend a funeral at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, January 13, 2017 at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc.  There are no calling hours.  Spring burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery Annex, Beaver Falls.  Per Joyce’s request, in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Friends of Lewis County Hospice, P.O. Box 266, Lowville, NY 13367 or Lewis County Humane Society, P.O. Box 682, Lowville, NY 13367.

She is survived by her husband, Bruce of 53 years; two brothers, Glenn and his wife Helen Altmire of Lowville; Raymond and his wife Nancy Altmire of Webster; a sister, Betty Ladue of Beaver Falls and her companion Keith Gary of Lowville; 3 sisters-in-law, Lila Altmire of Croghan; Karen Kirkbride of Turin; Deborah and her husband Aaron L. Widrick of Martinsburg; nieces, and nephews.  She is predeceased by a brother, Richard E. Altmire and a brother-in-law Robert Kirkbride.

Joyce was born on September 15, 1936, at home in Petries Corners, a daughter of the late Jesse and Elizabeth “Anna” Loson Almire.  She attended Beaver River Central School.  While in school, she worked at the Rapshaw Club, Stillwater.  She graduated in 1955, and went on to work as a nanny.  She also worked as a waitress for Paul’s Restaurant, before going on to work at General Telephone for 10 years.  On May 11, 1963, she married Bruce S. Schneider at the Beaver Falls United Methodist Church, with Rev. Bird officiating.  Their honor attendants at the wedding were Ray Altmire, brother of the bride, and best friend Marie Young.  Joyce devoted the rest of her life to being a homemaker and helping others.  She cared for her mother before her death, and then went on to care for Bruce’s mother and father. 

She loved the outdoors.  She enjoyed fishing, having grown up on Crystal Creek, gardening, feeding the birds, cutting wood and mowing the lawn.  Joyce also enjoyed bowling.  Over the years, she loved her pets and was known to be very tender-hearted to animals.
