Betty E. Vary

March 13, 1927 ~ May 20, 2015 (age 88) 88 Years Old

LOWVILLE – Betty E. Vary, 88, formerly of Valley View Courts, passed away Wednesday morning, May 20, 2015 at the Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility, where she has resided since October 2010. 

 

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 27, 2015, in Fairview Cemetery, Town of Harrisburg, with Rev. Bruce W. Chapman officiating.  There will be no calling hours.  A luncheon at the Lowville VFW will immediately follow the graveside service.  Any food donations may be dropped off at the VFW after 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday.  Contributions may be made to Lewis County Memorial Post #6912 Auxiliary, West State Street, Lowville, NY  13367.  Arrangements are with Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.   

 

She is survived by three daughters, Sharon Wetmore of Glenfield; twin daughters, Valerie Kuntz of Lowville; Vanessa and David Delles of Glenfield; ten grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren; and a special friend and roommate, Erma Fairchilds.  She was predeceased by her parents, and a son-in-law, George Kuntz.

 

Betty was born on March 13, 1927 in the Town of Fowler, a daughter of the late Harry Besaw, and was raised by her aunt, Nellie Besaw.  She attended General Martin High School, and worked for Lally Manufacturing in Port Leyden for several years.  A marriage to Clifford Gydesen ended in divorce.  She married Richard G. Vary at the First Presbyterian Church.  He died November 18, 1979.  Mrs. Vary worked as a chamber maid at the Bateman Hotel, and was a cleaner for Lowville Academy and Central School for 14 years, retiring in 1989.

 

Betty was a lifetime member of Lewis County Memorial Post #6912, VFW Auxiliary.  She enjoyed crocheting and crossword puzzles.  Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, and playing card games.

 

A special thank you to the third floor staff, and other caregivers at the Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility, for their loving care and support of Betty during her stay at the nursing home.
