Ardis (Langley) Peebles

CASTORLAND- Ardis Peebles, 94, of State Route 410, died Saturday morning, May 21, 2016 at her home under the loving care of her family and Lewis County Hospice. 

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at Beaver Valley United Methodist Church, Naumburg, with Rev. Tracy Cook, Pastor, officiating.  Calling hours will be from 4 – 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 25, 2016, at the church.  Burial will be in Martinsburg Cemetery.  Contributions may be made to Beaver Valley United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 127, Castorland, NY  13620.

Ardis is survived by her husband, Charles; three children, Candace R. Bezek of Castorland; Kevin W. Peebles and his wife Mona of Castorland; Cheryl A. and Thomas Remillard of Peru, NY; a sister, Norma Dinsmore and her husband, Robert, of Easton Maine; nine grandchildren and one great-grandson; nieces, nephews and cousins.  She is predeceased by a brother, Aubrey Langley, and by a sister, Verlie Larson.

Mrs. Peebles was born on April 23, 1922 in Presque Isle, Maine, a daughter of the late Elwin and Nettie Fields Langley.  She graduated from Aroostook Central Institute in Mars Hill, Maine in 1940.  Ardis worked at the air base in Presque Isle doing clerical work, and then worked at Maine Potato Grower’s in Aroostook, Maine, prior to her marriage.  On June 19, 1952, she married Charles E. Peebles at the Easton Baptist Church in Easton, Maine, with Rev. Henderson officiating.  Together with her husband, the couple owned and operated a dairy farm on NYS Route 410 in Castorland until 1985, at which time their son, Kevin, took over the farm.  Ardis worked as a clerk at the U.S. Post Office in Castorland for many years, and also did clerical work for Liz Gordon during tax time.

Mrs. Peebles was a member of Beaver Valley United Methodist Church, Naumburg, and a member of the United Methodist Women.  Ardis was a member of Denmark Grange #535.  She enjoyed sewing and flower gardening.  Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
