Albert L. Barbarito

August 6, 1933 ~ January 17, 2017 (age 83) 83 Years Old

GREIG – Albert L. Barbarito, 83, of Brantingham Road, died Tuesday afternoon, January 17, 2017 at Upstate Medical University Hospital.

A graveside service will be held in the spring at the convenience of the family at St. Peter & Paul Cemetery, New Boston.  There will be no calling hours or funeral.  Contributions may be made to the Lewis County Humane Society, P.O. Box 682, Lowville, NY 13367.

He is survived by three sons, Jackie L. Barbarito of Raleigh, NC; Anthony N. and his wife Kathy Barbarito of Tennessee; Michael S. and his wife Michelle Barbarito of Croghan; two brothers, William and his wife Betty Barbarito of Philadelphia, NY; James and his wife Carole Barbarito of Florida; one sister, Margaret and her husband Roger Sprague of Mexico, NY; 16 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.  He is predeceased by his wife Alice; two sons, Albert “Dennis” Barbarito and Kenneth Barbarito; six brothers, Michael “Sonny”, John, Joseph, Nicholas, Robert and George Barbarito; and two sisters, Elizabeth and Deloras.

Mr. Barbarito was born in New York City on August 6, 1933, a son of the late Michael and Elizabeth A. Pfeifer Barbarito.  He attended school in New York City.  After quitting school, he worked at local farms in Bayshore Long Island and was a greenhouse worker.  He was then drafted in the Army and served in the Korean War from 1953 until being discharged in 1955.  On October 6, 1956, he married Pearlie Rhoda “Alice” Miller at the Church of St. Michael, Antwerp, NY, with Rev. H.J. Hannah, officiating.  Albert remained working on family farms until he and his wife Alice purchased their own dairy farm in 1974.  Together they owned and operated the farm for many years, until Mrs. Barbarito’s death, on April 6, 1992.

He attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Glenfield. 

Albert loved animals and often enjoyed volunteering at the Lewis County Humane Society and spending time with the animals.  He also enjoyed raising and showing Boxers at area dog shows.
