William "Bill" Moore Obituary

CASTORLAND- William A. "Bill" Moore, 72 of Old State Road passed away on Thursday evening, August 22, 2024 at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Kyle Koester, in New Bremen.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Alice; three children, Matthew J. Moore of Castorland; a daughter-in-law, Amy Moore; Sarah A. and Kyle Koester of New Bremen; John C. and Jessica Moore of Martinsburg; 12 grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Brendon, Nicole, Jenna, Elaina, Evan, Owen, Avery, Eli, Emma, Ethan and Konor; five great-grandchildren, Jackson, Grayson, Jamison, Eliana and Maryn; seven siblings and their spouses, Bruce and Laurie Moore of Vermont; Wayne and Donna Moore of Eldridge;         Kevin and Rhonda Moore of Belfort; Kathy and Mark Millard of Lowville; Deb and Bob Mullin of Lowville; Kurt Moore of Castorland and Natalie Spano; Dave and Diane Moore of Castorland; several nieces, nephews and cousins.  He is predeceased by a cherished daughter, Jenny L. Moore who passed away on January 2, 2004; a sister, Lynn Moore; and a brother-in-law, Gerald "Jerry" Grau Sr.

Bill was born on January 8, 1952 in Lowville, NY, a son of the late Archie E. and Beatrice Rose Brouty Moore.  He graduated from Beaver River Central School in 1970 and attended Clarkson University.  On October 21, 1972, he married Alice Grau at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Belfort, with Rev. Kerry Keen officiating.  He worked for George Rock Masonry and built many fireplaces around the Croghan area.  Bill also worked carpentry with Ed Lyndaker and Bruce Roggie.  Later, Bruce and Bill started their own construction business with Bill’s sons, Matt and John, who all worked together for several years.  Bill enjoyed lathe work and building things, including his own home.  He loved hunting and has his 190 pound buck from Tug Hill, which he hung proudly in his kitchen.  Bill retired in 2014 and enjoyed helping people with odd jobs.

A calling hour will be held on Wednesday, August 28, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, Croghan, with a Funeral Mass following at 11:00 at the church, with Rev. Donald Manfred officiating.  Burial will be in St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery, Belfort.  A Celebration of Life gathering at the Belfort Inn will immediately follow the graveside service, all are welcome.  Any food donations may be taken directly to the Belfort Inn on Wednesday morning.  Contributions may be made to the Croghan Food Pantry, 9794 Main Street, Croghan, NY 13327; or to Volunteer Transportation of Jefferson/Lewis County, 24685 State Route 37, Watertown, NY, 13601.
