Theodore David Mooney Sr.

PORT LEYDEN- A graveside service with Military Honors for Theodore David Mooney Sr., 76, a long time resident of the town of Lyonsdale, will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, May 9, 2025 at Wildwood Cemetery, Lyons Falls.  Theodore passed away at his home on Tuesday, January 28, 2025 with his family by his side.  Arrangements are with Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.

PORT LEYDEN- Theodore David Mooney Sr., 76, a long time resident of the town of Lyonsdale passed away at his home on Tuesday January 28, 2025 with his family by his side.

The funeral will be held on Sunday, February 2, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. at Iseneker Funeral Home, 5702 Waters Road, Lowville.  Calling hours will be from 12:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. Sunday prior to the funeral, at the funeral home.  Burial with Military Honors will be in Wildwood Cemetery in Lyons Falls in the spring.  Contributions may be made to friends of Lewis County Hospice, P.O. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Darlene Moore Mooney; his two children, Theodore Mooney Jr. of Port Leyden and Lori (Allen) Brown of Constableville; two grandchildren that he was proud of that meant the world to him, Marissa Brown  of Sandy Creek and Meghan Brown of Constableville; two great-grandchildren, Aubree Barker and Jameson Soule; one brother, Keith (Nancy) Mooney of Fowlerville; two sisters-in-law, Paula Mooney and Elizabeth Mooney; a brother-in-law, James Moore; and several nieces and nephews that he enjoyed spending time with.  He was predeceased by his parents; five brothers, Kenneth (Pat) Mooney, Gerald (Constance) Mooney, Richard (Mona) Mooney, Joseph Mooney, and Vernon Mooney; and two sisters, Susie (Kent) Houghton and Mary Lou Wearne.

Theodore was born at the family’s homestead in Fowlerville, NY on January 14, 1949, a son of the late Jesse and Mildred Rocker Mooney.  He attended a one room schoolhouse in the town of Lyonsdale and graduated from South Lewis Highschool when he was 16.  After graduation, Theodore worked for many loggers throughout Lewis and Jefferson Counties as he traveled.  In 1968, he joined the United States Army and was stationed in Korea until 1970 when he transferred to the reserves, being honorably discharged in 1974.  In 1971 he married the former Darlene Moore in Watertown.  The couple then moved to Lowville for a few years before moving to Port Leyden and ultimately their forever home in Penny Settlement.  Theordore was known for his strong work ethic and worked for the Lewis County Highway Department for a few years before returning to logging.  He then worked for the Town of Lyonsdale Highway Department, retiring as the highway superintendent. Theodore was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need, often putting others before himself. 

He loved the outdoors no matter the season and found joy in riding his side by side, camping, hunting, and fishing.  Theodore spent many summers in the Clayton area, many times, setting up camp at Snug Harbor in Cape Vincent, where he enjoyed visiting his extended family.  He enjoyed cooking and baking, never following any recipes.  Theodore lived life to the fullest and enjoyed a good party.  He was a member of the Boonville VFW.

He will be deeply missed by the many that knew and loved him.  The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Elizabeth Mooney and Tom and Deb Covey for their help during this difficult time.  They would also like to thank Stephanie Podkowka for her compassion, support, and care provided with Lewis County Hospice.
