WEBSTER/ONEONTA/LOWVILLE - Sandra J. Lehman Mondillo, 83, formerly of Webster, Oneonta, and Lowville, NY, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 6, 2024 at St. Johns Healthcare, Rochester, after a long illness.
Sandra is survived by her siblings Jerrie Ann (Neil) Brownell of West Monroe, NY; Stanley J. (Sandi) Lehman of Webster, NY; Katie Irish of Scottsville, NY; Tim Lehman (Tom Howard) of Watertown, NY; Tom (Michelle) Lehman of Carthage, NY; sisters-in-law Caroline (Richard) Halbert of FL; Shirley Stevens of Watertown; six nieces, seven nephews and cousins.
Sandra was born on October 8, 1940 in Croghan, NY, a daughter of the late Stanley M. and Jane E. Nelson Lehman. She graduated from Lowville Academy and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics and her Master’s Degree in social work on June 7, 1969 from Syracuse University. On July 20, 1974, she married Carl A. Mondillo at Oneonta Country Club in Oneonta, NY. Carl and Sandra lived up and down the East Coast from Long Island to Florida, where Carl was manager for Texas Eastern Gas Companies. After the couple returned home to Oneonta, Sandra worked for many years as a social worker, a psychiatric social worker, and in different capacities as they traveled with Carl’s job. She retired from Otsego County Department of Social Services, Cooperstown, NY, as a supervisor. Carl passed away on August 31, 2016. Sandra was active in the student chapter of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) at Syracuse University and was chosen to speak at a graduation ceremony as a liaison for NASW. She enjoyed quilting, needle point, reading, traveling and family functions.
The funeral will be at Southside Wesleyan Church, 5300 State Highway 23, Oneonta, NY, 13820 at a date and time to be announced. There will be no calling hours. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Oneonta.
