Rhea Hunkins Obituary

LOWVILLE – a memorial service for Rhea Yvonne Hunkins, 86, formerly of Croghan, will be  at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 21, 2022 at First Mennonite Church, New Bremen.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery.  Rhea passed away Sunday morning, January 16, 2022, at Lewis County Health System Hospital.  Arrangements are with Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.

 

 

 

 

 

 

LOWVILLE – Rhea Yvonne Hunkins, 86, formerly of Croghan, passed away Sunday morning, January 16, 2022, at Lewis County Health System Hospital.

She is survived by her children and their spouses, René D. Morrow and Colin Boyd of Somerville, MA; Ricky and Darlene Hunkins of Beaver Falls; Randy D. Hunkins of Aliquippa, PA; two sisters, Muriel Smoker of New Holland, PA; Sharon Moser of Lowville; three sisters-in-law, Nancy Lyndaker, Eydie Lyndaker and Edith Horst all of Lowville; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Amanda (Travis) Bogart and their five children, Elias, Emmett, Eoin, Ezekiel and Emmanuel; Rebecca Rivers and her two children, Alexa and Aiden; Christopher Hunkins; Ryan Hunkins; Adam (Paige) Hunkins; several nieces, nephews and cousins.  She is predeceased by three brothers, Elwood, Warren and Kermit Lyndaker; two sisters and five brothers-in-law, LaJune and Mike Lehman; Ramona and Walter Zehr; Carl Fisher; Art Smoker; and Wilbur Moser.

Rhea was born on May 26, 1935 in the Town of Croghan, NY, a daughter of the late Reuben and Adah Lehman Lyndaker.  She graduated from Beaver Falls High School in 1953. Rhea married Donald Hunkins of Carthage, the marriage later ended in divorce.  She lived in the Syracuse area until 1978, when she returned to Lewis County.  Rhea held many jobs as a cook and waitress throughout her adult life. 

Rhea was a member of the First Mennonite Church, New Bremen.  She loved playing table games, card games, especially Rook, and socializing with friends.  She enjoyed listening to music, gospel and blue grass were her favorites.  Rhea especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.     

Services will be held at a later date in the spring.  Contributions may be made to Beaver Camp, 8884 Buck Point Rd., Lowville, NY  13367; Lewis County Health System Residential Activities Dept., 7785 N. State St., Lowville, NY  13367; or to a charity of one’s choice.
