LOWVILLE- Rachael Z. Widrick, 96, of Brookside Circle, passed away on Saturday morning, March 7, 2026 at the Lewis County General Hospital, Lowville.
Rachael was born on March 1, 1930 at home in the Town of Croghan, a daughter of the late David H. and Veronica Widrick Zehr. She attended country school at Belfort and worked for Climax Manufacturing in Castorland and did domestic work before her marriage. On May 26, 1949 she married Sherwood D. Widrick at Lowville Mennonite Church with Rev. Lloyd Boshart officiating. Together with her husband, the couple made their home on the River Road where they raised their family. Rachael moved to Brookside Senior Living Community after Sherwood passed away.
Rachael was a member of Naumburg Mennonite Church, where she was active in the Sewing Circle. She enjoyed crocheting.
She is survived by a daughter, Veronica “Ronni Ann” Wetmore of Baltimore, MD; two sons, Norbert Widrick of Elgen, IL; Philip and Alayne Widrick of Black River; a daughter-in-law, Rebecca Widrick of Lowville; 12 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Sherwood; three sons, Emanuel Joseph Widrick who died at 3 ½ years old in 1955; Patrick Widrick who died in January 2005; and Harlan Widrick who died in March 2010; siblings, Henry Zehr, Rosella Thompson, Estella Yancey, Grace Steria, Clifford Zehr, Florence Lehman, Gilbert Zehr, Sherwood Zehr, and Eleanor Zehr who died in infancy.
Calling hours are from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday March 10, 2026 at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville. The funeral will be on Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Croghan Mennonite Church with Pastors Bruce Roggie, Myron Roggie, and Evan Zehr officiating. Spring burial will be in Croghan Mennonite Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Widrick CF Fund at Albany Medical Center, 43 New Scotland Ave, Albany, NY 12208; or Naumburg Mennonite Church Sewing Circle, 5463 NYS Rte. 410, Castorland, NY 13620.
