NEW BREMEN- Nelson H. Grau, 66, of Patty Street, passed away Sunday evening, December 15, 2024, under the loving care of his family and Lewis County Hospice.
A funeral service will be at 3:00 P.M. on Friday, December 20, 2024 at Iseneker Funeral Home, 5702 Waters Road, Lowville with Pastor Evan Zehr officiating. Calling hours will be from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. prior to the service, at the funeral home. Burial will be in West Lowville Rural Cemetery in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Nelson’s name may be made to Lewis County Humane Society, P.O. Box 682, Lowville NY 13367 or Friends of Lewis County Hospice, P.O. Box 266, Lowville, NY 13367.
Nelson is survived by his beloved wife, Donna; his brother, Michael (Cynthia) Grau of Vermontville, NY; his sister, Helen (Ronald) Johnson of Lowville, NY; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins. He is predeceased by his parents; and a brother, Phillip Wayne Grau, who passed away at 1 day old in 1959.
He was born on August 27, 1958 in Watertown, a son of the late John A. and Alice A. Widrick Grau. Nelson graduated from Lowville Academy Central School in 1977 and worked at the Lowville Farmers Co-Op for five years. On July 22, 1978 he married the former Donna D. Lehman at the Bethel Church of Nazarene with Pastor Shay officiating, a loving union of 46 years. Together, they attended the Life Church of Nazarene in Watertown for many years. Nelson drove truck for North American Van Lines for a time before doing electrical with Dave Zehr and later working as a self employed contractor. Later, he worked at Aries Chemical in Beaver Falls and George Hutchins Trucking before he began driving school bus for Carthage Central School. Most recently, he was a bus driver for Lowville Academy Central School.
Nelson enjoyed reading and was a published author of two books. He also enjoyed planning trips and cruises, the ocean, and camping. Nelson loved spending time with his furry best friends, Dee Dee and Binky.
