LOWVILLE- Muriel “Mother” Lee, 91, formerly of State Route 812, passed away on Saturday afternoon, January 20, 2024 at the Lewis County Residential Healthcare Facility.

In keeping with Muriel’s wishes, there will be no calling hours.  A memorial Mass at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, Croghan will be held at a later date with burial in Old Glendale Cemetery, Glenfield.  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to New Bremen Volunteer Fire Department, 8154 State Route 812, Lowville, NY 13367 or St. Stephen’s Church Restoration Campaign, P.O. Box 138, Croghan, NY 13327.  Arrangements are with Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.

Muriel is survived by her beloved husband, Robert A. Lee; ten children, Robert (Marcia) Lee of Sebring, FL, Brenda (Ken) Chartrand of Croghan, Bruce (Charlotte) Lee of Croghan, Ronald (Jacqueline) Lee of Watertown, Carolyn (Andrew) Fitzgerald of Underhill, VT, Timothy Lee (Christina Gardner) of Lowville, Cathy Peebles of Lowville, Judith (Phil) Kraeger of Lititz, PA, Joseph (Colletti) Lee of Ephrata, PA, Eric (Hollee) Lee of New Bremen; 23 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald (Sally) Jackson of Lowville; three sisters-in-law, Joan, Donna, and Susan Jackson.   She is predeceased by a son, Jerry Allen Lee, who died in infancy in 1957; a son-in-law, Peter Peebles; a grandson, Zach Zehr who died in 2016; eleven brothers, Richard, Bert, George, Allen, Jerry, Douglas, James, David, John, Harold and William Jackson; a sister, Betty VanNest; her stepmother, Evelyn Jackson; four step-siblings, Richard Berrus, Clarence “Junior” Berrus, Jack “Clarence” Berrus, Donald Berrus, Pearl Peebles, Rose Arthur Hanno.  

Muriel was born on March 17, 1932, at home in New Bremen, NY, a daughter of the late Harold E. and Helen Mezaros Jackson and attended Beaver Falls High School.  On June 3, 1950, she married Robert A. Lee at St. Peter’s Rectory, Lowville with Father Cotter officiating.  Muriel stayed home with her children and was a homemaker. 

She was a communicant of St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, Croghan.

Mother enjoyed knitting, crocheting, circle words books and providing for family, friends, and everyone who entered her home.  Mother was noted for her carmel corn, wax on snow, Christmas cookies, “dirty rolls”, clam chowder, penuche fudge, molasses cookies, and her amazing mashed potatoes.  Mother would make a favorite treat for everyone’s birthday.  Everyone was family to Mother, and she loved everyone unconditionally.  Although Mother endured many tragedies in her life, she persevered with her strength and faith.  This made her more loving and accepting without judgment.
