LOWVILLE- Margaret Lillian Northrup, 88, of Lowville, New York passed away at her home on Sunday, May 26, 2024, while under the care of her family and Lewis County Hospice.
In keeping with Margaret’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral service. Private burial will be in West Lowville Rural Cemetery. Arrangements are with Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc. Lowville.
She is survived by two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Roxie Higby of Boonville; Barbara Higby of Lowville; Robert and Rita Higby of West Leyden; John Higby of Constableville; and two sisters, Carolyn Akin of Boonville; Mary Lou Randall of Blossvale; three sisters-in-law, Arlene Northrup of Baldwinsville, Kathleen Zeigler Northrup of Utica; and Georgia Smith Northrup of Rome; three brothers-in-law, Roman Szalach of Watertown, Lee and Carol Northrup of New Hartford; and James Northrup and his companion Patricia Sterling of Munnsville; several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is predeceased by her husband Francis L. Northrup in 1988 and her son, Stephen F. Northrup who passed on April 4, 2010; five brothers, Myles, Karl, Raymond, Leroy and Charles Higby; one sister, Anna Higby Ottman; a sister-in-law Janet Randall Higby, niece Lisa Higby Pfendler; also five brothers-in-law, Richard, William, John, Kenneth and Ronald Northrup; three sisters-in-law and two brothers-in-law, Patricia Northrup Burker and Harold Burker, Marjorie Northrup Wenk and Leon Wenk; and Elizabeth Nothrup Szalach; also father and mother-in-law, Leon and Evelyn Alley Northrup.
Margaret was born on February 29, 1936 in Lowville, NY, a daughter of the late Myles Foster and Marion Catherine Leffingwell Higby. On September 30, 1954 she married Francis L. Northrup at St. Mary’s Church, with Father Joseph Stickelmyer officiating. Francis passed away on November 20, 1988. Margaret worked at Ver’s Restaurant and then at Beaverite in Beaver Falls. Together with her husband, they did farming for 20 years. Margaret sold real estate for six years, until her retirement.
Margaret was a communicant of St. Peter’sCatholic Church, Lowville. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, crossword puzzles, and working on the computer doing genealogy and cemetery research.
