BRANTINGHAM – Margaret Elizabeth “Peggy” Gunn, 80, passed away Thursday evening, May 18, 2023 at her home, under the loving care of her family and Lewis County Hospice.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Thomas; three children, Andrea and Todd Williams of Fulton; Micheal P. and Catherine Gunn of Albany; Carole “Carrie” Gunn of Brantingham; two step children, Kristine and Charles Ridler of Geneseo; and Thomas M. and Nancy Gunn of Oswego; seven grandchildren and a great-grandson; five step grandchildren; and a step great-granddaughter; a sister, Carole and Larry Gunn of Chapel Hill, NC; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Margaret was born on July 6, 1942 in Syracuse, NY, a daughter of the late James and Muriel Vallier Burke. She attended Most Holy Rosary grade and high school in Syracuse, NY graduating in 1960. Peggy graduated from LeMoyne College in 1964 with a Bachelor’s degree in History and Political Science. She went on to earn her Master’s degree in Elementary education from SUNY Oswego. Peggy taught 5th grade at Most Holy Rosary Elementary School after graduating, and then taught at Brewerton Elementary School. On August 29, 1970, she married Thomas P. Gunn in Camillus, NY. Tom and Peggy moved to Brantingham in 1984. The couple purchased the Pasuma Restaurant in Brantingham, and operated it as the Woodlands Restaurant for five years. She began teaching at St. Peter’s Catholic School in Lowville in 1990, and taught at the school until it closed.
Peggy was a communicant of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Lowville. She was a lifetime summer resident at Brantingham Lake, enjoying spending summers together with her family in Brantingham from a young age. Peggy enjoyed reading, crocheting and knitting. She took a special interest in her children, and enjoyed holiday planning.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. at Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc. with Deacon Ron Gingerich officiating. A calling hour will be held from 2:00 – 3:00, prior to the funeral service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Peggy’s memory to Friends of Lewis County Hospice, P.O. Box 266, Lowville, NY 13367.
