A marriage to Clifford Cook later ended in divorce. Joyce’s first job was a switchboard phone operator back in the 1950’s when corded phones were used. Her voice was the one you heard say, “Number please”. Many people remember Joyce when she worked as a lunch/playground monitor at Lowville School from 1980 to early 1990. Joyce’s last job was working for Lewis County General Hospital in the Cafeteria.
Joyce is survived by two children, Christine Stokes and Jennifer Cook both of Lowville;10 grandchildren, Shyanne, Noah, Alyssa, David, James, Jessica, Katelynn, Brittiny, Jonathan, and Krispher; 11 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews all of whom she loved dearly. She is predeceased by two sisters, Evelyn Bacon and Doris Butler.
Joyce loved Nascar and religiously watched every race. She would tell anyone and everyone her love of Nascar and Jeff Gordon. She had the biggest heart and gave her all to anyone. Her family was her everything.
