CROGHAN/BEAVER FALLS- Joanne T. Austin of Steepleview Courts, formerly of Beaver Falls, passed away on Friday March 6, 2026 at the Lewis County Health System Hospital.
Joanne was born on August 3, 1936, a daughter of the late Elmer Taylor Sr. and Mary Smith Taylor. She was a 1954 graduate of Beaver River Central School, where she loved music. On June 26, 1954, she married Kenneth Austin, son of Verda and Leon Austin, at Beaver Falls Methodist Church with Rev. Leonard Bass officiating. Joanne raised her family and then worked as a nursing assistant and home health aide for Lewis County General Hospital and Family Home Care for 20 years, retiring in 2001.
Joanne was a life member of Beaver Falls United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Methodist Women’s Group. She was also a member of the Tug Hill Quilters and Black River Campers.
She is survived by two children, Karen (Kenneth) Ritz of Croghan; Kevin (Sharlene) Austin of Castorland; a brother, Elmer “Bud” Taylor Jr. of Syracuse; eight grandchildren and 11 great-children, who were very precious to her. She is predeceased by her husband, Kenneth; a daughter, Cynthia Austin; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Charlotte (Bert) Austin, and Marcia (Bruce) Dinkle.
In keeping with Joanne’s wishes there will be no calling hours or funeral service. A private graveside service will be held in the spring at Riverside Cemetery Annex, Beaver Falls. Arrangements are with Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Beaver Falls United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 66, Beaver Falls, NY 13305.
